New #JUSTIFYIT Texting and Driving Campaign to Kickoff at IAFF Convention
Continuing our work assisting IAFF affiliates with opportunities to generate positive publicity in your community and for your members, on Tuesday, July 15, at the IAFF Convention in Cincinnati, we will be launching #JUSTIFYIT, a new community outreach campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of texting and driving.
Like our previous community outreach toolkits, this campaign includes a sample press release and infographic, as well as talking points to use locally. The ready-made toolkit will also include a dedicated Facebook page and Twitter feed, fact sheets, a web resource, suggested school activities and a 30-second broadcast Public Service Announcement (PSA).
As part of the campaign kick-off, we are organizing a Satellite Media Tour for affiliate leaders at the Convention as an opportunity to beam you from Cincinnati back to your hometown television stations to discuss the dangers of texting and driving.
Any affiliate at the IAFF Convention can participate in the Satellite Media Tour. Just email mtreglio@iaff.org as soon as possible. We will immediately begin contacting the local media in your market in an attempt to generate interest. While we can’t promise stories in every market, we will do our best to schedule interviews. You should work your local television contacts, as well.
Even if you don’t participate in the satellite event, we encourage every affiliate attending the 2014 Convention to use Facebook, Twitter and your regular media outreach channels to help promote coverage of the campaign. To make it simple, we have developed a number of tools to use in your efforts.
Please take the time to review the materials available to help in positioning your local and members by reminding your citizens, media and local elected leaders of the value you bring to your community.
