Today, we&#8217;re referring specifically to the adhesion units that run traditional &#8220;display&#8221; or &#8220;banner ads.&#8221;\n\nFirst, to clarify the sometimes-confusing terminology:\n<ul>\n \t<li>On <strong>mobile<\/strong> sites, we mean the display adhesion running a 320&#215;50, NOT our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/mediavine-launches-exclusive-video-adhesion-ad-unit\/\">video adhesion<\/a>.<\/li>\n \t<li>On <strong>desktop<\/strong> and <strong>tablet<\/strong> devices, we&#8217;re referring to the banner running the traditional 728&#215;90 unit and similar ad sizes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10141\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10141\" style=\"width: 735px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10141 size-mv_create_no_ratio\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/stephie-cooks-dark-adhesion-735x364.png\" alt=\"The home page of Stephie Cooks, showing the dark adhesion theme.\" width=\"735\" height=\"364\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/stephie-cooks-dark-adhesion-735x364.png 735w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/stephie-cooks-dark-adhesion-441x218.png 441w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/stephie-cooks-dark-adhesion-768x380.png 768w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/stephie-cooks-dark-adhesion-930x460.png 930w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/stephie-cooks-dark-adhesion.png 1748w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 735px) 100vw, 735px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10141\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Display adhesion with dark theme<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\nFurthermore:\n<ul>\n \t<li>According to official Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) specs, these are known as ad &#8220;mobile adhesion banners.&#8221; According to Google AdExchange, they&#8217;re &#8220;horizontal sticky ads.&#8221;<\/li>\n \t<li>At Mediavine, we use the term &#8220;<strong>adhesion<\/strong>&#8221; for <strong>desktop and mobile <\/strong>ads of this nature; both adhere to the bottom of the screen, so we feel it&#8217;s the clearest description.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nWe feel this also makes it easier to differentiate adhesion ads at the bottom of the page with &#8220;sticky&#8221; units such as the sticky sidebar and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/scroll-to-play-with-mediavine-sticky-video-player\/\">sticky video player<\/a>.\n\nRegardless of what you want to call them, those ads at the bottom of your screen perform remarkably well, and we strongly encourage you to run them. We follow Google Material Design&#8217;s best practices and now provide a 48&#215;48 touch area for the close button, while ensuring that it maintains the minimum distance from the banner ad and any other object.\n<h3>No More Report Exclamation Mark<\/h3>\nWhile we never like taking away any features, we&#8217;ve removed the exclamation mark, and with it, the ability to report adhesion ads. Ultimately, with this larger touchable area, plus the distance changes, there just wasn&#8217;t room left to include it without hurting user experience.\n\nAccording to our research, almost no one was reporting mobile adhesion ads to begin with. The revamped adhesion is part of that bigger, ongoing process.\n<h3>Sticky Video Player Changes<\/h3>\nWith the smaller adhesion and moving the clickable area, some pretty big changes to our sticky video player, as well as the video adhesion, will follow before long.\n\nWe&#8217;re just going to save that as a teaser for now, but exciting things are coming!<\/section>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<section
