(Advertising Acronym Overload Ahead!)\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Mediavine&#8217;s Senior Vice President of Sales and Revenue, I can tell you that Private Marketplace, or PMP deals, are an important but somewhat lesser-known aspect of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/what-is-programmatic-advertising\/\">programmatic advertising<\/a>.<\/span>\n\n<!--more-->\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In advertising sales, these are also referred to as Deal IDs (DIDs), Private Auctions, Preferred Deals or Programmatic Guaranteed deals \u2014 th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e latter of the three are different variations of essentially the same thing.<\/span>\n\nI don&#8217;t blame you if that word salad left you a little confused. PMP makes more sense within the context of the programmatic ecosystem as a whole, which includes the Open Marketplace (OMP).\n\nThe Open Marketplace \u2014 in which advertisers sell ads to publishers on a massive scale and with every type of inventory a buyer would be looking for \u2014 is where the bulk of programmatic sales take place.&nbsp;\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advertisers set all the parameters for OMP campaigns. You can quickly and easily find and purchase anything at anytime.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You may not know the quality of those off-brand headphones you bought, but hey, they&#8217;re $2 and free, two-day shipping!<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I&#8217;m going somewhere with this, I promise. On the flip side of the coin, think of the Private Marketplace as the local, high-end electronics store selling the brand-name headphones you know and trust.<\/span>\n\nTL;DR \u2014 OMP and PMP deals both make sense in different situations. Private deals are more curated and specialized.\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> With a PMP deal, an advertiser typically finds a publisher they want to work with, and a conversation ensues between both sides regarding the specific campaign dates, rates, impressions, etc.<\/span>\n\n<strong>Advertisers utilizing PMP deals transact this way for various reasons, including: <\/strong>\n<ul>\n \t<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They prefer to run ads on a single website or select group of sites they know and trust; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/more-sites-helps-yours-grow\/\">Mediavine adding more sites<\/a> that are brand-safe, premium quality and highly trafficked makes our buying power increase with scale.<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They&#8217;re wary of fraudulent traffic; PMP often provides better safeguards.<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They need specific ad placements and\/or inventory with high <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/ad-viewability-the-why-and-how-to-make-your-ads-more-viewable\/\">viewability<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They&#8217;re looking for first-party data exclusive to a publisher; For example, they&#8217;re trying to reach Mediavine publishers with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/mediavine-partners-with-gumgum-as-verity-early-adopter\/\">contextual keyword targeting<\/a>, demographic info, location info, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Types of Private Marketplace Deals<\/b><\/h2>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier, I touched on variations of PMP transactions.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Private Auctions and Preferred Deals are similar, but with slightly different functionality based on prioritization in the ad server.
