Now it&#8217;s finally here, and as you&#8217;ll learn from your page-level reporting, the results are eye-opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each blog post, homepage, landing page, etc., on a given website will see differences in ad performance, so the ability to easily note this variance and use the data to your advantage is pretty exciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s right, eye-opening and exciting! Can you tell we&#8217;re happy with this? With access to this data, there&#8217;s so much to learn in terms of which blog posts to optimize, what to promote and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/mediavine-dashboard-reporting\/\">Mediavine Dashboard reporting<\/a> has always been helpful, but this takes it to another level entirely. We&#8217;re thrilled to finally announce it and help publishers experience it for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-page-level-reporting-work\">How Does Page-Level Reporting Work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/how-to-find-sessions-in-google-analytics\/\">Google Analytics<\/a>, which you provide us access to within the Mediavine Dashboard, to track your most popular 100 pages per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a visitor reaches your top pages, we track their performance in our ad server, Google Ad Manager, via what are called \u201ckey values.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given that key values are limited, both in terms of length (40 characters) and the total number you can report on, we had to get creative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our engineering team ended up building our own URL translation system as part of this process, but that&#8217;s a topic for another time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just know we had to build an inventive and robust system \u2014 parsing billions of page requests per month and translating them to a limited number of shortened key values \u2014 to pull this off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TL;DR \u2014 Engineers, gotta love them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1006\" height=\"694\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Home___Or_Whatever_You_Do___Mediavine_Dashboard-1.jpg\" alt=\"Mediavine Page Level Reporting in the dashboard\" class=\"wp-image-18010\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Home___Or_Whatever_You_Do___Mediavine_Dashboard-1.jpg 1006w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Home___Or_Whatever_You_Do___Mediavine_Dashboard-1-435x300.jpg 435w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Home___Or_Whatever_You_Do___Mediavine_Dashboard-1-667x460.jpg 667w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Home___Or_Whatever_You_Do___Mediavine_Dashboard-1-768x530.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1006px) 100vw, 1006px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-metrics-are-available\">What Metrics are Available?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For each URL, you\u2019ll be able to see the number of views (according to Google Analytics), approximate revenue, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/why-does-my-rpm-change\/\">RPM<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/cpms-ecpms\/\">CPM<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/what-is-fill-rate\/\">Fill Rate<\/a>, Viewability and average Impressions \/ Page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, that is a lot of data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a future blog post, we&#8217;ll go over tips and tricks on how to use these numbers to help you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/how-do-i-improve-my-rpm\/\">improve your RPM<\/a>. For now, here&#8217;s a brief overview of what they mean and how to improve them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>RPM \u2014 Many of you know <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/what-is-rpm\/\">what RPM is<\/a>, but one more time for those in the back: It&#8217;s the revenue you earn, on average, for every thousand views of that page. This varies, from page to page, due to all the factors below. As a result, you can look at RPM as <strong>a &#8220;summary&#8221; metric<\/strong>, but not one that provides much actual insight \u2014 the rest of these all influence that summary.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/ad-viewability-the-why-and-how-to-make-your-ads-more-viewable\/\">Viewability<\/a> \u2014 What percentage of the ads on this page were seen on average. Ultimately, advertisers pay only for ads that are seen, so you can use these metrics to figure out <strong>which pages are helping or hurting<\/strong> you. Common causes of poor ad viewability include low user engagement with content around your ads, certain traffic sources or slow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/why-page-speed-matters\/\">pagespeed<\/a>.<\/li><li>Fill Rate \/ CPM \u2014 These <strong>factors are intertwined<\/strong>, and useful to look at together. While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/fill-rate-tool\/\">fill rate<\/a> is the percentage of paying ads vs. total ad requests on a given page, CPM is the amount your ads earned on this page, on average, per one thousand impressions. Looking at these two factors together will help you identify pages that are earning you less per ad impression. Why are they earning you less or more? Common reasons include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/what-is-a-keyword\/\">keywords<\/a> used in your posts, demographics of users reading them, countries they&#8217;re browsing from, device types and traffic sources.<\/li><li>Impressions \/ Page \u2014 Note that this is NOT the number of ad units on a page, but<strong> the number of impressions served<\/strong>. That includes counting an ad multiple times as it refreshes on the page. If it seems high, that&#8217;s actually a good thing. A VERY good thing. If it&#8217;s too low, it&#8217;s a bad thing. This is probably <strong>the most useful metric of the entire report<\/strong> because you&#8217;ll have the most control over it. If the number is too low, it&#8217;s time to optimize your content. Improve your impressions per page \u2014 and subsequently your RPM \u2014 by writing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/shorter-sentences-and-paragraphs-for-larger-rpms\/\">shorter sentences and paragraphs<\/a>, using more images, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/increase-font-size-and-increase-seo-rpm-along-with-it\/\">increasing font size<\/a>&nbsp;and every other content tip we&#8217;ve ever given you.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, more to come on all of this!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"735\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/developer-working-735x490.jpg\" alt=\"man using a laptop for page level reporting\" class=\"wp-image-9255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/developer-working-735x490.jpg 735w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/developer-working-441x294.jpg 441w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/developer-working-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/developer-working-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/developer-working.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 735px) 100vw, 735px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-accurate-is-this-reporting\">How Accurate is This Reporting?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re looking at a single day and comparing values between pages, it\u2019s pretty darn accurate. More than accurate enough to make a big difference and to feel confident about impactful decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you\u2019re looking at lifetime earnings for a URL, or using this data for accounting purposes, then it\u2019s not accurate enough due to the limitations of the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, we\u2019re only looking at your top 100 pages each day. If a page falls out of your top 100, it won\u2019t be tracked for that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A hundred pages is a lot, but over a longer period of time, the pages floating in and out of the top 100 will vary, and as a result, the numbers displayed may not equal the lifetime total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can read more about this phenomenon in our help guide on <a href=\"https:\/\/help.mediavine.com\/en\/articles\/3782885-dashboard-page-level-data\">page-level data<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, for the purposes described above, this isn&#8217;t an issue. Better yet, because we only pull revenue for top pages, relative revenue metrics such as RPM, viewability, CPM and fill rate will still be accurate over the ranges you select.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second factor that could impact the accuracy of the reporting is Google Analytics. Any filters, changes or alterations you make to your Google Analytics settings can impact the data you see in the dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-can-you-access-page-level-data\">How Can You Access Page-Level Data?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re reading this while Dashboard 2.0 is in beta testing, just head on over to the beta URL in the banner at the top of your regular dashboard. It\u2019s an open beta every Mediavine publisher has access to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, in the future, when Dashboard 2.0 rolls out to become just the Dashboard, you\u2019ll just scroll down to the page-level section.
