href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/covid-19-and-mediavines-update-for-content-creators\/\">global pandemic<\/a> and incomprehensible racial injustices, that I\u2019m sure most of us would agree this year has been nothing short of a turbulent struggle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But along with these challenges, there have also been some eye-opening conversations and necessary changes taking place, especially within the blogging community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We love that change is beginning and we&#8217;re committed to helping it move beyond this moment in time to continuous forward momentum towards a more inclusive space for everyone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!--more-->\n<p class=\"p1\">As a company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/we-stand-with-you-an-update\/\">Mediavine has made a complete commitment<\/a> to structural change for combating racism, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mYN4_h2diuU&amp;t=1s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">promoting diversity and advocating for inclusivity<\/a>, both internally and externally. We&#8217;re encouraging everyone within the blogging industry to join us, as making these issues a part of our practice and daily lives will create a better environment for all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Diversity isn&#8217;t just an idealized dream, it&#8217;s essential. But true inclusivity takes real work. Do a diversity audit on your feeds<\/strong><\/h3>\nTake a look at the brands and influencers you follow, engage and collaborate with to see if the content they share is diverse. If you are scrolling through a company&#8217;s Instagram feed and don&#8217;t see any Black creators featured, it&#8217;s time to slide into those DMs and ask why.&nbsp;\n\nInitiate a conversation to find out what their social strategy is and reasoning for not including voices that also need and deserve to be heard. Recently, I sent a very direct email to a travel-related brand questioning them about this exact thing. I know many bloggers have been more empowered than ever before on calling brands out and holding them accountable.\n\nAudit the people you follow and make sure you have a diverse set of websites you are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/backlinks-inbound-links-seo\/\">backlinking<\/a> to in your blog posts. Check to see that the posts you share on your Facebook page &amp; Twitter are from diverse content creators. Do the photos you share reflect a variety of skin tones?\n\nSometimes the uncomfortable questions need to be asked and conversations need to take place in order to enact positive change.&nbsp;\n<h3><strong>2. Ask key questions before committing to an influencer campaign<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\nDid you know that when a brand wants to work with you for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/authentic-sponsored-content\/\">sponsored campaign<\/a>, you&#8217;re actually in a perfect position to advocate, not only for yourself but also for diversity?\n\nThink about it: You already know the brand wants to work with you, they&#8217;re listening, therefore you have POWER. Utilize your voice and platforms to advocate for inclusivity and social good&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\nRemember this quote from the original <em>Spiderman<\/em> movie with Tobey Maguire? <em><strong>&#8220;With great power comes great responsibility.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em>\n\nAs a content creator, you have a platform. And that platform comes with an audience of people who regard you as an authority, which means that you don&#8217;t only need to feature food, travel, family, etc.&nbsp;\n\nAdvocating for causes like #BlackLivesMatter and LGBTQIA+ rights on your social platforms means being a resource while also being willing to learn. Amplify the brands and businesses that make inclusivity a part of their daily mission and not just when it is trending or convenient. Share relevant stories from a variety of diverse voices.&nbsp;\n<h3>4. Don&#8217;t be afraid to speak up and educate others within the blogging industry<\/h3>\nPart of the important work here is awareness and the other part is being vocal. Make sure that marketing, campaigns and press trips have diverse and equal representation. Inclusivity means being fair and equal, so when you don&#8217;t see that happening in our industry, don&#8217;t be afraid to stand up and call it out.&nbsp;\n\nAlso, if you&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/how-to-plan-events-for-bloggers\/\">planning and hosting an in-person or virtual event<\/a> with speakers and guests, make sure there are people of color speaking and attending.&nbsp;\n\nBrands need to know that bloggers are watching, and Black creators deserve to be included, shown, heard and fairly and equally compensated for their work. Follow Black influencers and amplify their work<\/h3>\nActively pursue and expose yourself to more diverse creators and content. Take your audience along for that journey, like we strive to do at Mediavine, by using the hashtag #AmplifyMelanatedVoices to share <a href=\"https:\/\/everydayeyecandy.com\/25-black-travel-bloggers-to-stalk-on-instagram\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">black content creators&#8217; work<\/a>. It&#8217;s also a great way for bloggers to participate and find new voices to follow.&nbsp;\n\nThis will not only inspire you and your work, but can help others discover new Black influencers to follow and support.\n\nBeing more inclusive and advocating for inclusivity within the blogging industry will give people more reason to connect with you, your brand and your messaging, so please let
