This is certainly true in the world of SEO as well as life.\n\nWhen a user first arrives on a page from search engines, the first impression is everything that loads in the first screen view.\n\n<!--more-->\n\nIt\u2019s no secret that Google has been pushing publishers to make sure that first screen view is the best experience possible.\n\nThis is one of the hallmarks of Google&#8217;s pagespeed efforts, including the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/google-page-experience\/\">Page Experience<\/a> and Web Vitals. We\u2019re going to be referring to ATF a lot in this article.\n\n<strong>How do you optimize the first screen view?<\/strong>\n\nThe Mediavine blog fanatics may recall that in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/keyword-prominence\/\">keyword prominence<\/a> post, we talked about using your keywords early in your content. Guess what, that concept is coming back!\n\nSEO experts will commonly tell you to use your keyword or keyphrase in your opening paragraph, and that\u2019s incredibly important here.\n\nAbsolutely try to get those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/what-is-a-keyword\/\">keywords<\/a> in your first paragraph, because then that phrase should appear above the fold.\n\nAgain, this is fairly intuitive. Readers are most likely going to be scanning for the thing they searched and found your result for.\n\nAs early as you possibly can, give the people what they want. It\u2019s no secret, and it&#8217;s why using words in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/what-is-anchor-text-seo-best-practices-for-links\/\">anchor text<\/a>, not images, is recommended.\n\nIt\u2019s also why Google strongly encourages <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/alt-text\/\">alt text<\/a>. In addition to being great for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/mediavine-ads-ada-compliant\/\">ADA compliance<\/a>, alt text is easier to parse than images.\n\nSo when Google is parsing your ATF content, make it text. I personally like to see sites lead with a few paragraphs before inserting an image.\n\nBonus: This will also help with your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/lighthouse-6-web-vitals\/\">web vitals<\/a>!\n\nIf you don\u2019t have an image in your first screen view (besides your logo, of course), you\u2019ll have a much faster Largest Contentful Paint (LCP).\n\nThere&#8217;s also a speed element that can&#8217;t be ignored. Images are not just harder to parse, they&#8217;re also a heck of a lot slower to load.\n\nWe know, many bloggers are visual story tellers, and that\u2019s okay.
