After all, the optimizations only work so far as readers actually see the content!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your social followers and newsletter subscribers are the perfect place to start. There are undoubtedly new fans who haven\u2019t yet seen all of your old content, and ever-changing algorithms mean that even long-time followers may have missed something the first time around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve created the <strong>Social Media Checklist<\/strong> worksheet (page 11 of the workbook) to walk you through what you need to think about for each platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since you\u2019re all certainly very familiar with each platform, I won\u2019t bore you with too much detail on each channel, but I do want to hit on a couple of points for each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/pinterest.jpg\" alt=\"A laptop computer displaying a user's Pinterest feed.\" class=\"wp-image-7845\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/pinterest.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/pinterest-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/pinterest-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/pinterest-307x460.jpg 307w, https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/pinterest-735x1103.jpg 735w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pinterest\">Pinterest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure \u2014 no matter what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/graphic-design-tools\/\">graphic design tools<\/a> you use \u2014 that you&#8217;re creating vertical pins with a 2:3 ratio, for posts that don&#8217;t already have one. This is Pinterest\u2019s current ratio preference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/what-is-a-keyword\/\">Keywords<\/a> are also key (no pun intended) for Pinterest, so make sure you\u2019re using lots of descriptive keywords when you write your Pinterest descriptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pinterest has stated that they have no preference between live pinning or scheduling, so long as you are pinning to relevant boards. But if you choose to use a scheduler make sure whichever tool you use is on <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/business.pinterest.com\/en\/marketing-partners-directory\" target=\"_blank\">Pinterest\u2019s approved Marketing Partners list<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CGv2Ob1JALg&amp;t=168s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pinterest Strategy episode of Teal Talk<\/a> with the masterful Kate Ahl!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-instagram\">Instagram<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Keywords are far less important for Instagram captions than for other platforms, so let your creativity soar as you write like-worthy captions for your Instagram content! (Which I know you\u2019ve already cropped to square&#8230;right???)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hashtags <em>are<\/em> important for Instagram, though, so take a few minutes to research some relevant ones. This is not the time to pull out random hashtags that are not in any way relevant to the photo \u2014 instead, look for relevant tags that have a good amount of posts, but not so many that your content will get lost within them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember \u2014 it\u2019s not so much about being seen by a lot of people, it\u2019s about being seen by the RIGHT people. That\u2019s what will translate into true engagement and new (engaged) followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh \u2014 and take a few minutes to respond to comments. Don\u2019t be spammy with your tags, but instead look at it as an opportunity to show your followers where they can easily find the people, places or things you\u2019re telling them about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And just like with Instagram \u2014 respond to comments and mentions. Show your audience that you care about them being there and engaging with them. Even if you don\u2019t have time to write responses to every comment, a heart or a like reaction will let them know you saw and appreciate their interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-youtube\">YouTube<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re creating videos, make sure you\u2019re taking a few minutes to upload them to YouTube with a keyword-friendly description.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A custom thumbnail image will go a long way as well, and make sure you don\u2019t get stuck with an awkward still from the video instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also make sure you have your <a href=\"https:\/\/help.mediavine.com\/en\/articles\/1388975-how-to-connect-your-mediavine-videos-to-a-youtube-channel\">YouTube channel connected to your Mediavine video player<\/a> in your dashboard so you can take advantage of new subscribers that way as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also don&#8217;t hesitate to check out our Facebook Live about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MsLdmuAcH48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">monetizing with video<\/a> \u2014 there are tons of great tips for using YouTube alongside your Mediavine videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-email-newsletter\">Email Newsletter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have an RSS feed set up, these optimized posts may have already gone out to your email subscribers, but that doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t send them again in a newsletter-style format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think about how you can position these posts within newsletters as you work on the challenge and in the quarter to follow. Perhaps you have a lot of popular pumpkin recipe content you can group together into a roundup-style newsletter. Never forget that!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recommend setting a calendar reminder for yourself on the last or first day of each month to jot down your stats from the previous 30 days. Make sure to compare it to the same period of time from the year before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Page 13 in the workbook provides a super simple chart for keeping track of stats across your site and your social channels. Page 14 provides a similar chart for tracking RPM \u2014 but in this case, we recommend jotting down your numbers weekly, since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/why-does-my-rpm-change\/\">RPM fluctuates<\/a> so much day-to-day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep in mind that these charts are really just a starting point for tracking. I\u2019d encourage you to think ahead to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/what-is-q1\/\">Q1<\/a> \u2014 even if RPMs are decidedly less exciting at the beginning of the year, that doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t make the most of the traffic and RPMs you do have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, use this exercise leading up to each new quarter because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediavine.com\/ad-revenue-seasons\/\">ad revenue changes by the season<\/a>. Within a year, you\u2019ll have optimized a huge chunk of content without any great sacrifice of time or energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-do-i-find-the-worksheets\">How Do I Find The Worksheets?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re just joining in, we have been working through a book of worksheets for this challenge.
